Methodist Stone Oak Hospital just completed five years of service to the North Central San Antonio community. The hospital opened in March 2009 and quickly became a major economic generator in the Stone Oak community. New businesses, restaurants, doctors’ offices and hotels have cropped up along Sonterra Boulevard.
In 2010, Methodist Stone Oak welcomed 730 newborns into the world, handled 18,000 emergency department visits, 7,300 inpatient visits, 6,600 outpatient visits and nearly 3,000 surgeries. As a result the hospital is “on the grow.” Major construction is underway to add additional beds in the Mother/Baby Unit, intensive care and post surgical areas. These expansion projects will be completed by June 2011. The hospital was built to grow and expand as the demand for services was identified in various service areas. Physicians practicing at Methodist Stone Oak Hospital also have established themselves as leaders in minimally invasive procedures including open heart surgery, orthopedics and neurosurgery.
The hospital also features a DaVinci Surgical System which is the leading robotic surgical device; the system is used for gynecological surgeries including hysterectomies and removal of tumors. Minimally invasive procedures mean smaller incisions, less blood loss, less chance for infections and faster recovery time for the patients.
